Great show. Interesting to hear your con prep tips as here in Germany very few take the time to be that well prepared and props and fitting handouts seem rare to me. But then again we do not have that many conventions either so most props wont see repeated use. Thank you also for talking about fabled environments, I did not know their maps and will go get me a bunch. Looking forward to your Genghis Con show.
Great episode Ron! I really enjoyed the “GM con game prep” segment.
Some other things that help me a lot at a con game is to read my adventure at least twice.
Have copies of the players character sheets as reference to field questions that they may have during game.
I also have a laminated Combat Survival Guide/Combat Maneuvers on the table so the players can think up some strategies other than fighting or shooting. It really helps them figure out how to do smarts/agility tricks as well of remind them of aiming and cover. (I learned this trick from Mark Francis) Very Happy
Other than that I would say that having props at a Con game can go a long way. I use things like Heroscape terrain, printed flip mats from Paizo or sci-fi maps from Mapsofmastery.com or even toys from the clearance rack. I mix both mini’s and figure flats, depending on what I need, and believe it or not it all comes out OK in the end. I think people get very creative with role playing and interacting with the environment when they see props. They hide more, (cover, stealth) use cranes or machinery as weapons, leap over bridges, swing on chandeliers etc. It’s awesome……and I love my toys!
I wish Charlotte, NC was only a few inches away from Denver, Co. I would love to join you guys for GhengisCon! See if Veronica can fold the map and make it any closer will ya?
Anyway, great show. _________________ Nick A.K.A. The Savage Greek
